T4 : : Analyse the track

The Song we've chosen is Not my day by Lost in society.
Lyrics
I know what you're thinking
But I don't know what to say
An' everybody's leavin'
And I don't want to stay

I just want to go out
Yeah, I want to go away
Let's follow our hearts now
'Cause I don't want to pray

I don't wanna be that
Guy who's all alone
Trapped in his single room
Apartment with no phone
No, I don't wanna be that
Guy who's all alone
'Cause today is not my day

Front door out of reach and
I think you're a mental case
The other side is freezin'
My life is such a waste

Can we please just get out
Would you just go away
Let's follow our hearts now
'Cause I don't wanna pray

I don't wanna be that
Guy who's all alone
Trapped in his single room
Apartment with no phone
No, I don't wanna be that
Guy who's all alone
'Cause today is not my day

I know what you're thinkin'
But I don't know what to do
And everybody's leavin'
Look what you put me through

I don't wanna be that
Guy who's all alone
Trapped in his single room
Apartment with no phone
No, I don't wanna be that
Guy who's all alone
'Cause today is not my day
No, today is not my day

No, I don't wanna be your nerd
No, I don't wanna be your
JOCKSTRAP ASSHOLE
No, I don't wanna be your rock star boyfriend
'Cause today is not my day
No, I don't wanna be your nerd
No, I don't wanna be your
RAPPER CRAPPING DOUCHE BAG
No, I don't wanna be your rockstar boyfriend
'Cause today is not my day

No, today is not my day
No, today is not my day
No, today is not my day.

T3 : : Analyse the artist

Lost in Society

From looking at various sources with information our selected artist, have an indie rock style of music similar to other indie artists such as Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys. They don't seem to have a unified look, more of a jeans and t-shirt look. The creative concept for the group doesn't appear to be anything new.
They are a punk rock band based out of New Jersey, and consist of Zach Moyle (Vocals/Guitarist), Nick Ruroede (Bass/Backup Vocals), and Hector Bonora (Drums). They are signed with Texas label Alteration Records.
They had their big break at a show at the PNC Bank Center in 2004, being freshmen in high at the time. Not long after they recorded their first EP "Gone" with Jon Leidersdorff from Lakehouse Music. 5 years later they recorded their first full length album released in 2010 "Eastern Empire". After winning 1st place in Metromix's BreakThru competition, giving roughly $30,000 in cash and prizes, they've gone from strength to strength being featured on various forms of media. In April 2012 they realeased a new single "Not Afraid" which made it to the top of the top 5 tracks on Boston's UNregular Radio, shortly after being signed to Altercation Records.

T2 : : Choosing the track/Gaining Permission

We wanted a reasonably unknown source of music for our music video, and came across this, after a big of searching discovered that they weren't that big or known.
We found the bands website, went to the page to contact them to gain permission about using their song  to create a music video.

Here is a copy of the audio file of the song we have chosen. "Not my day" by Lost in Society.

T1 : : Understanding Copyright

Copyright is an important issue and has many uses in the music industry. Such as:

- Stops the theft of intellectual property, other peoples work and ideas.
- Stops the re-posting of music videos/sharing without the permission of the artist on sites like Youtube/Vimeo.
- Re-using material without the permission from the artist/label for something like a new version.
- Makes sure the original artist is credited in any reworked material.
- The user must seek permission by contacting the artist via call/email/social medias/etc. and explain their intentions.

The creation of copyright coincides with the invention of the printing press and wider public literacy at the turn of the 18th century, although Charles II passed the Licensing of the Press Act 1662, the Statute of Anne (1710) was the first real copyright act in Britain that gave publishers rights for a period then expired. Until the creation United States Constitution (1787) several states had their own copyright laws, the first being Connecticut.
Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by the majority of modern governments to grant the creator of original work protection and exclusive rights to its use and distribution, as a way for them to receive income for their work and support themselves financially, for a period of time usually.
As of 1988, the maximum penalty of a conviction on indictment is 10 years imprisonment, 6 months in the maximum penalty on conviction and/or £5,000 fine.

Johnny Cash was involved in a copyright infringement with Gordon Jenkins, the issue being that Cash had inadvertedly copied bits of Jenkins song Crescent City Blues while serving in West Germany, with no intention of becoming a professional recording artist. The matter was settled out of court with Cash paying Jenkins £75,000 to Jenkins, despite Cash's song being released on an album around the same time, earning millions.
